This news shocked the entire NTU community and has given rise to many theories on why the student stabbed his professor before jumping to his death. This has also raised the question on whether citizen journalism can be a good thing for Singapore and also whether mainstream news channels like the Straits Times is being objective in their reporting. ReplyDeleteWe think that after "his grades had slipped, and his scholarship was revoked", he became very stressed. To make matters worse, his final year project needed to be submitted.
Moreover, the media states that he was depressed and slit his wrists.
So, our assumption is that he could have been mentally and emotionally unstable at that point in time, with stress as the cause, and could have acted against his better judgement when he stabbed his professor.
David's scholarship had been terminated because of his unsatisfactory grades, according to the news. This must have ben a blow to him and he may have been emotionally and mentally unstable at that time.
ReplyDeleteHe may have went to confront his professor to ask him to give a better grade so that he could sustain his scholarship. The professor may have rejected his request and ended up in having a heated argument. Out of anger, David may have stabbed his professor.
After that, David may have felt guilty for acting recklessly and jump off the building as he thought after he killed himself, he would be able to run away from the responsibility of stabbing his professor.

i am thinking that david had scored badly in exams cos of gaming addiction and accused the professor of not teachin him well, so he tried to threaten him.the professor may have scolded him and thought that he would not stab him so he scolded him even worse. David got fed up and finally stabbed him.then, he was scared.so possibly he accidentally tripped over the edge and died.

ReplyDeletewe think that david might have been a very clever person who always topped the class in his studies.But because he has been playing alot of video games lately,and so his grades dropped.So when the professor talked to him and reprimended him about his bad grades,maybe he didn't like being corrected in his mistake and is not used to it,so he felt hurt by the professor's harsh word.David then got very unstable emotionaly and took the fruit knife near him and stabbed the professor.He came to his senses and felt afriad after realising he injured the professor and couldn't face the consquences.He than jumped off the building
Our group thinks that David have been a top student for the past few years,but he have been playing games and got addicted,thus,his result drop a lot and his scholarship was terminated.And furthermore, he has to summit his final year project which he have no done really well in,so,he got a serious scolding from the professor, he was mad and took the knife that is on the desk near him and stabbed the professor..

ReplyDeleteWe think that it's because he played too much violent games and he just could not resist on playing it so , when homework is given , his homeworks were not up to the professor's expectation so he had to redo it again but he could not take it because he felt too pressurized by his professor so he stabbed the professor . And as mentioned earlier , he liked to play violent games so maybe , this had corrupted his mind as in violent games , when one is killed , they will be back to life .
We think that it is due to the fact that he is an addicted gamer, he lost interest in his studies, hence his grades dropped. This also caused him to lose his scholarship. He could have suffered quite a bit of stress already. To add even further, Singapore's education standard is higher then where he was from, it was also his final year project and his work did not meet professor's standard. Causing him to have a violent streak and stab the professor.

ReplyDeleteWe think that the cause could be he had played too much games and he has lost interest in his studies and do not want to do his homework given by his professor,thus causing his grades to dropped and he has to redo his work repeatedly as they are not up to the professor's standard.From this, he would be stress.In addition, he might be suffering from finacial problems as his scholarship has been cancelled due to his grades.He would think that the professor is responsible the termination of his scholarship.Out of anger, he stabbed his professor.After he had come to his senses, he felt scared as he realised that he had killed his professor and do not want to face the consquences,therefore he jumped of the building.
